I tried all sorts of drugs and medication recommended by my Doctor but nothing worked.

In desperation I searched and searched for natural and home made remedies and eventually I found a number of remedies which worked and I eventually did get acid reflux relief.

I then discovered there were comprehensive online remedy methods available which not only gave lots of simple remedies and ways to avoid Acid Reflux but was also fairly cheap as well.

I actually would have paid ten times the amount to find relief. It would have been well worth it!

As I wrote in my main page, I was a severe sufferer of acid reflux or heartburn for many years. I finally overcame the condition and have been symptom free ever since.

What I am trying to do with this site is to provide information and advice to help other people who are suffering from acid reflux as well.

With this article I will try and explain how acid reflux occurs and keeps coming back.

Eating food should be a pleasurable activity as well as a way to stay alive. But for acid reflux sufferers this is what happens:

We chew food and saliva is mixed with the food which starts the digestion process off, the food is then passed down the oesophagus (or the pipe which connects the mouth to the stomach) and enters the stomach. The stomach contains strong acid which is required for digestion. The acid is supposed to be kept in the stomach which has a lining which protects it against the acid. The acid is not supposed to enter into the oesophagus at all.

But if the acid does get into the food pipe it burns as the oesophagus does not have any special lining to protect it. This burning is the feeling we get when we suffer from acid reflux.

This problem is usually caused by a faulty valve at the end of the oesophagus which is supposed to keep the acid out. This valve consists of smooth muscle which should operate automatically.

Everyone can suffer from a little heartburn occasionally and it is just one of those things when the valve gets it wrong, but if it is happening on a regular basis after every meal, the condition is then serious and is the full acid reflux or GERD or GORD – gastro-esophageal reflux disease or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, both are the same disease, just spelt differently in different countries.

Once acid reflux is happening on a regular basis, another condition starts to happen. This is when the acid starts to cause erosion of the oesophagus lining. This is then very serious and can sometimes erode all the way through the oesophagus.

So you can see why this disease can become such a huge problem for anyone who suffers from GERD or GORD long term.

In more articles on this site I’ll go into other factors which have a big effect on acid reflux and the various remedies which can be used.

Gastric reflux in infants occurs quite often. Over half of babies experience acid reflux within the first three months of their life. The symptoms of acid reflux in infants are: vomiting, spitting, irritability, coughing, blood in stools, and poo

Many people have that occasional bout of acid reflux, but if the symptoms start occurring more than two days per week, where do you get the acid reflux help that you need when these attacks start occurring frequently? Well, there are over-the-counter medications easily available to you through the local drug store, or you can see your family doctor for acid reflux help. If you take over-the-counter medications for acid reflux help and are seeing minimal or no results go see your doctor so that you may receive the right medication for you.

You may feel the gastric reflux approaching, or it may sneak up on you out of nowhere. It doesn’t matter what time of day it decides to attack you. It can also happen during or after a meal. Certain foods can also trigger that severe discomfort. What is worse than having it during the day? Well, that is having it during the night.

When lying down, the acid sneaks up the esophagus. When you’re sleeping, you lack the burdens of gravity and the daytime swallowing to keep the acid at bay. As many as sixty million Americans suffer from this vicious irritation and are seeking acid reflux help on a daily basis. Only twenty to thirty million of sufferers are seeking the help they actually need. Eventually, the frequent acid reflux can result in eroding away of the esophagus.

Why does this happen? When the acid in the stomach irritates your esophagus, it is because the sphincter that’s at the bottom of the esophagus doesn’t have very good muscle control. That sphincter keeps the stomach acid from coming back up into the esophagus. The majority of patients who seek acid reflux help have easy-to-control acid reflux.

Acid reflux help is available for you, so that you may not have to experience this torment for long again.

Controlling what you eat and how you eat can give you a sort of acid reflux help from your home itself. By not eating right before bed, eating smaller meals, avoiding spicy foods, and avoiding foods with high acid content like tomatoes. These are some great home remedies to control acid reflux. Another acid reflux help initiative for those who are a little on the heavy side is to try and lose a little weight. People can also elevate their head a little bit to avoid a slope in the esophagus, which will keep the stomach contents down.

What medications can be used for acid reflux help? Well, there are antacids and H2 blockers that are both available over the counter. Proton pump inhibitors are those that are available by prescription. Either way, both will give you acid reflux help by providing relief of existing pain and remind you of the medicines you may need when you look at that ravioli with those wanting eyes.

The problem with the Antacids and H2 blockers is that they only treat gastric reflux not cure it, to do that you have to change your lifestyle and eating habits and use some common household products.

A child with asthma and allergies may not know that asthma and allergies is the number #1 chronic childhood disease. He also may not know that asthma claims more lives every year even though more treatments are available.

For a child or teenager who is having difficulty swallowing, eating, or is failing to grow, the doctor may suggest a trial of medication to reduce the amount of acid in the child or teenager’s stomach. The reason for this is that the doctor suspects acid reflux. Acid reflux in children is not at all uncommon and is very treatable.

Treatments

Treatment by using H2 blockers is one of the over-the-counter treatments that can be used to treat acid reflux in children. Proton pump inhibitors such as Prevacid can also be used in the treatment of acid reflux. If by some chance the child continues to have these symptoms despite the treatment he/she is receiving, other treatment methods may incur. It is very rare, but surgery may be the best option for children who have severe symptoms that do not respond to any other type of treatment.

Some suggestions to help reduce the effects of acid reflux in children is to have the child to eat smaller meals, avoid eating 2 to 3 hours before bed, elevate the head at least 30 degrees, avoid carbonated drinks (the Cokes and the Pepsis can go down the drain), chocolates, caffeine, and foods that are rich in fat-content. Carbonated drinks can increase the acid in the stomach, as can citrus fruits. Spicy foods can also have the same effect. Ideally, a change in diet can help reduce acid reflux in children significantly.

Although acid reflux in children can begin when they’re infants, most children grow out of it. There are those cases where children do need treatment in order to conquer the irritation to avoid more severe problems in the future. Acid reflux in children can cause vomiting, coughing, hoarseness, or painful swallowing.

An upper GI series x-ray, which consists of Barium being swallowed, will show the shape of the esophagus and stomach. This test can show a variety of esophagal and stomach problems. There are also more invasive methods in which an Endoscopy or Esophageal pH probe may be used. Both of these methods involve a probe of some type being inserted into the esophagus and both are successful at learning about acid reflux in children.

So when should you consult your pediatrician about acid reflux in children? If there is increased amounts of vomiting or projectile vomiting, vomiting of fluid that is green or yellow or looks like coffee grounds or blood, difficulty breathing after vomiting, pain related to eating, or difficulty or pain swallowing.

If any of these symptoms present themselves, take your child to the doctor before the symptoms worsen. There are different medications available for the prevention or relief of these symptoms. Persistence without treatment can later result in possible surgery, but treatment is very easy when accompanied with a change in diet. Relief is definitely in sight for acid reflux in children.
